And the award for most underrated bird goes to… the Field Sparrow! I’m a big fan of all sparrows and the Field Sparrow is no exception. They’re super friendly: I almost stepped on one today because she was busy frolicking in front of me and I wasn’t paying attention. They’re super singy: it’s not the grass in the fields making all that music, it’s these guys! They’re super tough: migrate shmigrate, they stick around here all winter long. They’re super cute too, with that tiny orange beak and white eyeliner. There are a lot of fancy birds at the Celery Bog right now hogging the spotlight, but once they’ve moved on I’ll still have my Field Sparrow friends.
