I spotted this Midland Painted Turtle coming out of the prairie Saturday morning, and using all my skills as a wilderness explorer I was able to successfully chase it down and capture some photos. The prairie is located just west of the bog, about 150 yards away. This is probably a female who just laid her eggs there and is making the long journey back to the bog; many painted and snapping turtles have been spotted making the same trip in the past few weeks. In three months or so the eggs will hatch, and next spring all these young turtles will head out searching for a watering hole of their own. Go east tiny turtles, go east!
