The Great Blue Heron is an impressive bird, standing almost four feet tall, it is the largest North American heron. Their diet consists mainly of fish but I’ve seen them in fields eating mice and frogs. On the golf course it’s fairly easy to get close to them, but in the wilderness that is the bog, they prefer not to be anywhere near humans. Imagine my surprise when I popped out at the water’s edge to find this big beauty standing there! For their size they are surprisingly good flyers, one well-timed hop and flap of the wings and they are airborne. They can even land on a tree limb like it’s no big deal.
