When I saw this long-legged beauty hopping along the water’s edge I knew immediately what I was looking at. With my vast knowledge of birds, encyclopedic really, I… I had no idea what it was! I figured I would go home and use a research technique I developed specifically for situations like this: flipping page by page through all of my guides until I found something resembling this bird. But once I calmed down and realized that he has some thrush-like qualities, I narrowed it way down and quickly came to the conclusion that I had captured a Northern Waterthrush. A fairly common bird, I suppose, but I had never seen one before and didn’t even know they existed before today.
