This is the wise old squirrel of the bog, and he is possibly the largest squirrel I’ve ever seen. He moves around the bog casually, not the least bit concerned about anything. I’ve come across him numerous times walking down the path and he goes right on by just like anyone else out for a morning walk. On this day I paused beneath a crabapple tree and heard a distinct munching sound, so I looked up and saw him enjoying a little breakfast just a few feet above me. As I moved on he let go of that apple and it hit me on the shoulder, I’m pretty sure he was aiming for my head!
