Common Yellowthroat

Every opportunity to get this close to birds is exciting, even more so with camera in hand and the chance to bag a keeper. Shooting this Common Yellowthroat was no exception, but for the life of me I could not figure out who this bird was! I flipped through all my field guides to no avail and as I slammed the last book shut, completely frustrated, I looked down to see this on the front cover! It felt like another hour had passed as I attempted to locate the cover art information. Now, I’ve never claimed to be a world-class birder, wink wink, but this was ridiculous! It was one of those situations, and we all have them, that we swear not to tell anyone. FYI, The Sibley Guides place the cover art information on the back of the jacket in very small, italicized print.
